A Room With A View
A Room With A View…
Roger Ulrich at the Department of Geography, University of Delaware, has done an interesting study on the effect of the environment on 46 hospital patients, all of whom were recovering from gall bladder surgery.
Half of the patients were in hospital rooms with a view of a brown brick wall. The other half had a room with a view that overlooked a row of trees with foliage.
Those who had the view of nature spent significantly less time in hospital after their surgery (they went home on average a day and a half earlier than the other group) and needed fewer doses of painkilling medication. They also had slightly fewer post-operative complications.
